Synopsis:

Filmmaker Vincent Blais-Shiokawa has always been torn by his heritage. Raised on Canadian soil by a Japanese father and a Québécois mother, he marked his independence by distancing himself from his father's culture. But now, a trip to Japan to visit a dying great-aunt — his last family link in the country — will force him to confront his identity malaise. And to answer, once and for all, the question: "Can you live in peace when you're Hafu?"

GUY BOUTIN - Head of original production for TV5 Unis TV

Guy Boutin has more than 25 years of experience in the Canadian television industry. A playwright in his early days, he has since worked as a screenwriter, director, scriptwriter-editor and producer, collaborating mainly with Francophone minority producers, thus contributing to the enrichment and cultural diversity of the audiovisual industry in Canada. He has worked on landmark projects such as Destination Nor'Ouest I and II, Viens-tu faire un tour? and La ruée vers l'or. Since 2018, he has been head of original production for TV5 Unis TV, where he oversees innovative content. He also shares his knowledge by teaching screenwriting at various universities.

FLORIAN BOSC - Director-Actor

Florian Bosc is a French-Canadian filmmaker based in Whitehorse, Yukon. He studied cinema in Paris and Montpellier for three years. He directs short films, music videos and event videos. He has won awards at various festivals in Canada and Spain, and one of his shorts was selected in a film festival in India. His short film Serge is presented at CINERGIE 2025. His next goal is to make a short film about his father's cancer, and then a feature film.

Synopsis:

Reynold Célestin is hospitalized in palliative care in a Montreal facility. The Haitian man who is battling stomach cancer hopes to reconnect with his daughter Vanessa, who has become a young adult, before taking his last breath. While cooking recipes of cultural importance to Reynold, with the help of her aunt, Vanessa becomes aware of the important weight of a dark legacy inherited from the last century.
