Festival CINERGIE is established in Saskatoon since 2006. Each year, for four days in May, we present a selection of the best recent French-speaking Canadian and international short films and feature length films, with English subtitles. We aim to present the diverse realities of francophone cultures from around the world, in a celebration of the French language and our rich storytelling.

The CINERGIE team knows the importance of seeing yourself represented on the BIG screen: we make it a point to showcase films centering the voices of Black, Indigenous, People of colour, 2S/LGBTQIA+ and minority communities. We include films for all ages and audiences, with subtitles for persons that are hard of hearing and/or non-French speakers. We offer complimentary tickets to those experiencing financial barriers. The venue is accessible for persons with reduced mobility.

SYNOPSIS:
[FR] Depuis leur arrivée à Montréal, Fouad et Bassima, qui ont fui la Syrie en guerre, peinent à joindre les deux bouts; sans papier, trouver un emploi relève de l’exploit. Les époux sont dénoncés aux services frontaliers par le propriétaire de leur logement et Fouad est déporté. Bassima se retrouve à la rue. Totalement démunie, mais déterminée à faire revenir son mari, elle accepte à l’insu de celui-ci de devenir mère porteuse pour un couple aisé, en échange d’une importante compensation financière pour obtenir un faux passeport pour son retour.
[ENG] Since arriving in Montreal, Fouad and Bassima, who fled war-torn Syria, have struggled to make ends meet; without papers, finding a job is next to impossible. The couple is reported to border services by their landlord, and Fouad is deported. Bassima finds herself homeless. Completely destitute but determined to bring her husband back, she agrees, without his knowledge, to become a surrogate mother for a wealthy couple in exchange for a large financial compensation to obtain a fake passport for his return.

La bonhommie de Vincent fait place au désespoir malgré le soutien de Renée et Mike.
[ENG] Vincent is overjoyed when he learns that he will finally go on tour with his band. Then the diagnosis comes: stage 4 tongue cancer! Trying treatments begin and he is forced to accept the services of Renée, a talkative volunteer driver, and Mike, an overworked home nurse. [ENG] When her older brother Thaddeus is mysteriously kidnapped by the Enchanter, 11-year-old Lydia sets out to find him in the Sea of Mist. Taken in by the crew of the Dauphin, a flying ship, she becomes the apprentice of the astromagician Ambrosia. Lydia must learn astromagic and confront the Enchanter.

SYNOPSIS:
[FR] lI n’y a pas si longtemps, Pénélope était danseuse. Aujourd'hui, elle ne danse plus, ne dort plus, ne fait plus l’amour. Pénélope passe tout son temps à allaiter et à s'occuper seule de son nouveau-né, Lou, qui ne prend pas assez de poids. La nuit, Pénélope emmène Lou faire de longues promenades. Lors d’une de ces ballades nocturnes, Pénélope est témoin d'un hold-up. Elle reconnaît la braqueuse. Dès lors, la jeune mère, profondément perturbée, se croit suivie par la fille en rouge.
[ENG] Not so long ago, Penelope was a dancer. Today, she no longer dances, sleeps, or makes love. Penelope spends all her time breastfeeding and caring for her newborn baby, Lou, who is not gaining enough weight. At night, Penelope takes Lou for long walks. During one of these nighttime strolls, Penelope witnesses a robbery. She recognizes the robber. From then on, the young mother, deeply disturbed, believes she is being followed by the girl in red.

[FR] Résonance Acadie suit le parcours de dix jeunes artistes, issu·e·s de la diaspora acadienne, invité·e·s à créer une oeuvre en seulement huit jours, lors du Congrès mondial acadien en Nouvelle-Écosse. Ces artistes plongent dans les univers de la musique, du théâtre, du cinéma, de la danse et des arts visuels, repoussant les limites de l’expression artistique, et choisissent de redéfinir le patrimoine à travers leur vision contemporaine. Le film capture le processus créatif de ces jeunes talents, animé·e·s par une passion sincère pour leur culture francophone.
[ENG] Résonance Acadie follows the journey of ten young artists from the Acadian diaspora who were invited to create a work of art in just eight days during the World Acadian Congress in Nova Scotia. These artists immerse themselves in the worlds of music, theater, cinema, dance, and visual arts, pushing the boundaries of artistic expression and choosing to redefine heritage through their contemporary vision. The film captures the creative process of these young talents, driven by a sincere passion for their Francophone culture.

Quand Elli, un petit fantôme sans-abri, frappe à la porte des résidents excentriques d'un manège hanté à la recherche d'un toit, elle attire accidentellement l'attention du « monde extérieur » et doit faire équipe avec un groupe hétéroclite de monstres dans une quête folle pour sauver non seulement tous les monstres et tous les humains, mais aussi sa seule chance d'avoir enfin une famille à elle. Même un fantôme a besoin de quelqu'un à aimer! Peu importe qui nous sommes et d'où nous venons, la famille constituée d'amis ou de parents est souvent celle qui forge notre vie et notre coeur.

Une occasion en or pour venir expérimenter le stop motion (animation en volume) en famille, dans le cadre du projet SaskCréation Fransaskois Vibe de la Fédération des Francophones de Saskatoon @francosaskatoon ! 🤩
Le Carnaval d'hiver se déroulera le 7 février 2026; les activités de stop motion avec CINERGIE seront de 12h-16h, dans l'auditorium de l'École Canadienne-Française, Pavillon Gustave-Dubois. 🏨
